It seems like its a perfect distro. Rolling release so you get recent packages and dont have huge upgrades every few months, but not so bleeding edge that it breaks often. YaST is pretty cool but you are not forced to use it. Basic installation gives you enough essential stuff, but its not too bloated. The only thing its missing is AUR, but i still didnt find a program that i need and cant find in official repos or trough flatpak.
Honestly, now that i use it, it seems like insanity to install anything else. (for everyday desktop use)
I’m a video editor, I had a tough time getting Davinci Resolve to run. That’s my only complaint.
They really need to start shipping Flatpaks or something so that they aren’t always just targeting RHEL and CentOS. Luckily for me, someone’s done the hard work of repackaging it into the AUR, but it really is kind of a crap experience on other distros.
Yea I’ve talked to their support about this. It’s not happening any time soon. For some reason all VFX packages target Cent and are not moving to Rocky, big bummer.
Isn’t Rocky binary compatible anyways (well at least before the Redhat announcement)?
It is, but they’re using an unsupported version of Rocky that is CentOS 7 equivalent with an ancient kernel version.
Distrobox might be your best bet for it
This is cool.
