Enjoyed blasting through the campaign. Except where you notice they released the chapters later and the difficulty spikes are pretty bonkers if you ask me.

The way you build your character is also much more manageable compared to something like Path of Exile too, so that’s a big plus for me.

It just feels soulless. I think the systems it has are very good if you like ARPGs a lot, but the rest of the game is just Chrono Trigger if it was completely bland. The game feels like someone just thought of making a better PoE without having any artistic vision and that’s a big turnoff for me

Campaign stops being fun after 10th time, and you can only rebuild character in speciality. Overall though it’s the best hack&slash i ever played.

Well the campaign is weak plot wise and there are areas that are clearly underdeveloped (what’s with the ancient era even being a thing?) so it’ll get old very fast.

Did the alternate paths add any replayability to you?

Campaign is still heavily in development, there are 3 chapters missing and prologue recently got entirely reworked, though in recent months they mainly worked on the last three specialties (Falconer, Runemaster and Warlock and managed to get them on release and not even very bugged, though notably runemaster is imbalanced because it’s the only wizard specialty where you don’t have to shot your own foot by mandatory taking the godawful Focus skill, but that’s more of other wizard specs being lackluster rather than RM being OP).

What alternate paths? Campaign is super linear, except you can skip some of it by going into dungeons. Also, it’s still way better campaign than in PoE, though i wish there would be option to skip it entirely (I play this since early beta and i really seen it too many times), it’s one of the best features in D4.

Come to think of it the dungeons don’t really allow for big skips.

I’m not a big loot rpg player, so I didn’t even know the newer ones allow you to skip the campaign altogether. Definitely something they should consider adding.

I kinda feel like LE was a poison pill for me, because I cannot go back to Path of Exile now. There’s just so many small quality of life upgrades that LE has added to the genre that Path of Exile feels legitimately antiquated. Auto-sort inventory, auto-loot crafting mats and gold by walking over them, so much more streamlined scaling, actually efficient targeted farming of rares and uniques…

It’s not a perfect game. It definitely has a shallow endgame, some multiplayer jank, and I worry about how they’ll be able to continue to add new skills and builds over time compared to the beauty and freedom of PoE’s gem system. Still, I’m glad I backed it all those years ago. It feels like a legitimate contender for greatest ARPG of all time, which is a huge accomplishment for the studio.

How they’ll expand the character builds is something I’m looking forward to. They’d have to make new characters or, at least, new advanced classes for it to work.

And yeah, the sheer amount of QoL features that PoE doesn’t have make it jarring to go back.

I haven’t explored the endgame much, I’m still exploring the classes (Spellblade was cool but I’m trying Lich now).

I mean, the single biggest praise I can give it is that every character I’ve rolled felt fun to play. I’ve done Beastmaster Summon Wolves, Druid Thorn Totems, Necro Zoo, Shadow Cascade Bladedancer, Smite Void Knight…

I know there are some classes that could use some help, like Forgemaster, but it’s really impressive just how many builds are possible and roughly in line in strength with one another.
