I’ve heard of it (and its incredible show xP) but never read anything. Will put it on my list for this summer.

Yeah, somehow there’s something not Pokémon-y about them. Maybe it’s just nostalgia speaking hehe, but the 2D ones had way more charm!

Yeah I heard ORAS were pretty decent, and honestly would be the only 3D ones I’d like to try out, because I love gen 3 so much

Infinity is FOSS, Boost isn’t.

Yeah I’m still a daily user

Never heard of him, I believe. Will check his books out, thank you for the recommendation!

Kinda mid one, but Pokémon Black/White 2 were the last real games. After that, they started being too 3D and lost a lot of their charm, imo. Gen 3, 4 and 5 as well are so freaking good! Love Emerald in particular (best end-game!) <3

Was about to post the same hehe That website is pretty great, specially like the charts!

Still haven’t started actually reading ASoIaF, despite being a big fan and having already read tons of snippets from the books (thank AltShiftX for peaking my curiosity). Maybe this summer I will pick up AGOT.

love the work! Jerboa has always been quite inconsistent, but this makes it much more visually appealing and clear. Can’t wait to see the PR for this :)

Yes, toxicity will inevitably appear more (it was already present in small amounts 🙃) but I’m hopeful the lack of a karma system may help to mitigate some of Reddit’s typical “bad behavior”.

Hear hear!
I expect to be some bumps on the road, but the Lemmyverse was really quiet until recently. Now it’s gaining so much life and shaping into an active and pleasant platform :3

On liberapay you can also donate any custom amount just once. It will simply calculate it as “$x/week”, iirc.

Advanced techniques 🤫

Yeah, was thinking of a DNS based solution as well. Probably the easiest and most effective way to do it?

Good question. Seeing as your set of skills don’t quite align with Lemmy’s core componentes (Rust backend and Inferno frontend), your best bet would probably be on helping new people settle in, improving documentation, translations, discussing new ideas (like for onboarding), etc.

Any form of help is highly appreciated!

I’m not a dev, no. But I’ve been here a while and like to help out :)

mmm alright, anti-CAPTCHA bots have indeed been getting way better. Could there be some other library of some sort that yields better images?

I know I’m being a bit pushy at this point, but distributing instance load can be helped in some part by merging this PR and deploying the latest changes (including more languages and recommended instances as well) :)

Yes, it is possible, but was not a priority until now. The boom of users is basically just two days old, the devs have not gotten enough time to catch up yet hehe

Yeah, federated logins of some sort would be really nice to have. There have been some mentions of integrating something from Streams onto Lemmy.

I’m not sure how such arrangement would work, but if postgres really becomes a bottleneck, hosters could consider some sort of managed postgres cluster.

I believe Dessalines or nutomic were saying on a Matrix room that Postgres was their worst performing component at the moment, and why they needed a vCPU upgrade on their server. Maybe some sort of managed off-site Postgres instance could be an option?

It will for sure. Lemmy has seen such a massive influx of new users in just two days. It has barely given any time for the devs and admins to catch up. Stuff takes time to implement, but fortunately, now there have been donations and more people helping out!

In practice, everything will contribute, even if just a bit. The biggest issue at the moment is the database, so the worst “offenders” will be searches, which require more complex queries.

I did not read it like that either! Perhaps I misworded. I meant that, since last update seems to have been on September 25th 2022, the maintainer probably is too busy right now, and if someone else feels they could help out, they should :)

Oh, that’s a pity :(
Someone should take the lead there then. But yeah, Ansible is pretty great! I rock my own setup because I feel more comfortable this way, but it was originally based on the first Ansible setup hehe

At the moment, the only tool I know is available for that is https://browse.feddit.de. It should be officially endorsed by the project and available on join-lemmy.org, imo. It crawls the network and allows you to search for communities and see where they are hosted!

As for CAPTCHAs, Lemmy does not use any third-party provider, but rather a little library that generates them given a set of noise functions to apply. I’m not entirely sure how effective the top difficulty ones are at stopping OCR bots and the likes, but they seem pretty good.

There still isn’t an “official” way to do this, but there’s a neat browser at https://browse.feddit.de
Give it a shot!

Same. I got more hours than I could ever count 👀

The time you see a system’s weakness most clearly is definitely when stressing it in a real scenario. The goal is to improve further each time we get an influx of users :)

Hey, welcome! Thank you for your contribution to the network :D

As for discoverability, it is a problem yet to be properly solved. For now, I’d suggest making a launch post and share your communities in the many posts that have recently popped around (e.g https://lemmy.pt/post/36126)

Definitely! There needs to be some improvements to user onboarding, it’s always one of the biggest painpoints with decentralized platforms.

Lemmy Portugal 🇵🇹 - A new public instance dedicated to Portugal and the Portuguese Language
Hallo! Making this announcement post here to let more people know that the lemmy.pt instance is now opened! I had held back from making this post due to not having written some rules yet, but now that's in place. They still need some touch ups, and a more extensive Code of Conduct document has yet to be written, however, I'd like to get more people on board to get more feedback. So, what is this instance about? Anything related to Portugal, Portuguese, or any related community. We have some communities already set up, but anyone is free to create their own space :D Naturally, posts should be in Portuguese, and on-topic, but English posts are also welcome if they come from people wanting to learn about the community, culture, language and so on. I hope to help the Lemmy network by adding this new instance :3 Cheers!
