I mostly emulate stuff or play 2D games, otherwise I’m working through my boomer shooter backlog.

Something about GBA on a PSP just feels right. That was my first emulation handheld, recently found a nice condition original thicc model and jail breaking that thing has been so simplified. I remember needing a paperclip last time I did that

I had a period of like 2 years where I mostly played GBA, SNES, and PSX games on one - super fun. A slightly bigger one with more ergonomic controls and maybe PS2 and NGC support would be perfect

That era was a sweet spot because developers had enough power for complex games and decent graphics, but limited enough that they couldn’t drown their art department in graphics fidelity.
I think most people would argue that at least when it comes to console games, the peak was attained a little later, in the PS2 era
