Since the fediverse is growing and growing fast, there is some content coming through the all feed that, personally, I would prefer to not see from specific communities.

For example, if I wanted to block communities dedicated to vtubers, when that community shows up in my all feed, I would like to explicitly block that content from being shown in my client.

On other “centralized” social media platforms, you could use browser extensions to block specific content from communities that you wouldn’t want to see.

Just wondering if there’s something already there or if I need to make a feature ask to the lemmy client owners.

Yes you can block communities. It will depend on what user interface you’re using, but it’s absolutely possible.

For clarity on the user interface in question, this is specifically for the web UI provided by lemmy.ml / lemmy.world by default.

I can go into the community directly to block, but I would prefer to just have a button to block the community from the “all” page without having to subject myself to more content from that community.

Every post has the community hotlinked. Click on the community, the sidebar on the right has a big red block button.

There’s no button on the feed, and honestly I wouldn’t really want that. Accidentally blocking an entire community with a misclick would be extremely annoying. But design preferences aside, if you want to block the community you’ll have to brave their front-page long enough to click the button.
