The mosfilm channel on YouTube has a bunch of old Soviet cinema with different subtitle options, a lot of its war stuff but there’s all genres. Personally I recommend White Sun of the Desert, a Soviet spin on the western genre, or the film The Communist, which is set during the civil war period but it’s not a war movie, that one really surprised me with its message and content.

For a movie that’s kind of a one-room play I recommend Dinner Rush it’s one wild night in a New York restaurant with a nice twist ending. Now I’m thinking about Danny Aiello movies.

Sometimes if I can’t pick a movie I just go with an actor I like.

What We Do In The Shadows is both a movie and a series about vampires living in the modern world. The movie is great, the series is good for a few seasons but falls off.

Im constantly trying to get people to watch Whiskey Galore, its a great wartime comedy set in the Scottish Hebrides

The new Interview with the vampire show is amazing. That’s all I’m gonna say. Dark and dramatic but it can be so funny.

Circus (1936) was one of stalins favorite movies. It’s still enjoyable even by modern standards

Widow’s Bay is really great, but can be a bit scary if you’re sensitive to horror. But mostly dark comedy.

In the same genre if horror/comedy, but that leans much farther to the comedy side is an older Canadian show called Cavendish, about a pair of brothers that go back to their hometown on Prince Edward Island and (re) discover how weird and possibly supernatural it is.

I find myself re-watching my faves, namely Adventure Time (the later seasons lost me though when it got meta-versey) and Community

Also it’s not laugh out loud funny, more like, small smile throughout, but Fisk is great writing and apparently there’s gunna be a season 3. Kitty Flannagan deserves all the kudos she’s been getting

I recently watched some Marvel slop with a friend who likes the stuff. It was a show called Wonder Man.

Now, in recent years, I’ve only seen the thoroughly meh Fantastic Four movie and the dogshit Captain America movie. I have not watched the streaming series’ or other movies they keep churning out every 3 months since like 2021. I might have to go see Spider-Man with my friend in a couple days because she insists it’s good, but that’s irrelevant.

Wonder Man was actually enjoyable. Idk if it’s because it’s the least “Marvel” in terms of acting and direction, or if it’s because it feels like these characters are closer to actual people than quip/merch machines, or because we had a couple drinks, but I actually found myself engaging with a Marvel property for the first time in a long time.

Anyway, it’s 1 season and there won’t be more because they cancelled season 2. Wish I remembered who the deuteragonist was, apparently he was in the 3rd Iron Man but I watched that one drunk over a decade ago.

I wouldn’t “highly” recommend it, but it’s surprisingly watchable for 2020’s Marvel.
