Oh this is great, I’ve been using Elisa for a while, but this is so pretty & customisable, definitely gonna keep using this.
I recently found cmus and have really taken a liking to it - mostly because it’s really lightweight, and I love the novelty of my music player running in the terminal.

I like the fact that I can edit track info or automatically edit tracks in an album and add album covers in Clementine. Any music player alternatives that can do the same?
Strawberry. Happens to be a fork of Clementine. It is paid on Windows though, but not on Linux

This has been my Linux music player for like 15 years
Check out Gapless, it’s minimal and has a beautiful UI.
Think music players are the software I’m most picky about and have switched multiple times. I’m kinda stuck between using Audacious and DeaDBeeF at the moment.
Either something has all the features I want but looks bland or outright ugly, Or it looks really nice but is lacking in playlist management or some other weirdness.
I don’t think I’ll ever find “the one”.
“The one” was always Winamp
I’ve been making my “the one” for years (off and on) now. I’m getting closer with https://github.com/MangoCats/Lempi - but it’s still got a big cost up front that I’m under-motivated to address because I’ve already paid (segmenting songs, IDing them in MusicBrainz, analyzing them, trimming lead-in lead-out points, etc.)
The thing I like the best about Lempi is that it does “shuffle play” with a reasonable intelligence, auto-selecting a good subset from my collection based on example songs that I want to hear “things like this” during certain timeslots of the day. I can just let it run anytime / all the time like a radio station and not think about choosing my playlist.
Have you tried Tauon?
I have and ended up picking DeaDBeeF over it.
Be also picky about triangles and lighthouses
I’ve been using rmpc for a couple years now and I like it overall except that it can be a bit simple. Just a queue and monolithic library, can’t create playlists or play random files, etc.
Its my first mpd client, but I know mpd is meant to be fairly narrow. Being clean and simple is mostly a benefit at least.
It does look nice. Layout is the hardest part to get right, there’s no one size fits all, so opinionated players like that can run into a lot of empty space like shown in the screenshot.
My boring arse theming might give the wrong idea of Fooyin, but you can really make anything you want out of it, and layouts for every occasion.
I recently discovered Rufin and I’m so happy with it.
It meets most of my needs such as ListenBrainz scrobbling, Linux & Windows versions (and even a future Android one according to the latest release), Discord Rich Presence, and basically every other feature I would expect a local music player to have.
Bonus it is written in Rust 🦀
I’m working on Lempi, which is both similar and different - mostly on how the DJ works:
Rufin’s Auto DJ says “more like this track” and trusts the server’s idea of similar. Lempi works like a radio programmer with rules: it decides how often each song may come back, what fits this hour, and what follows well from the last track, then adds a controlled amount of chance.

I’ve been off and on developing Lempi for personal use since 2020 - it has other names in the past, most recently changed becasue I was developing under a name somebody else “went wide” with in 2023. There’s a lot of music players out there.
I get so annoyed when there’s no forum and just a discord. Discord sucks

Anything you like about it in particular?
Because it looks nice (prettier than most player on Linux IMO) also visualizer and lyrics fetching is pretty cool too, not that other player can’t do it but Aqloss is the best all around
I’m not talking a bout it because I’m still stuck on fooyin ;)
I’m fond of qmmp because it ticks the boxes: it fits sanely into my desktop aesthetic since you can use normal Qt theming, it supports MPRIS for integration into status boxes, and the download-lyrics plugin works (surprisingly rare, many onky surface embedded lyrics)
