I’ve been here since the post r/CTH ban discord lifeboat days, and I’m still amazed at how dense the history of this community is. There’s so much apocrypha that will be lost to time if we don’t perpetuate it by putting to writing what each of us remembers personally.
Up until recently, there was this whole-ass over a year long period wherein posts and comments disappeared from search and user histories if they were more than a couple months old. The extensively forked lemmy code Hexbear used just couldn’t handle such a large database, we had to return to the main lemmy branch to regain that stuff. I feel this saga disconnected us from our history on this site. Many of the funniest struggle sessions and incidents have all but disappeared from the site’s cultural memory as a result.
TC69 banning anti-trans users complaining about pronouns by using the downvoting records was so fucking funny.
I think I was one of the rare people who found kerryposting to be really fucking funny as a form of spam. But if we’re going even further back it would probably be the reddit days when both cumtown and chapo podcasts were talking about the sub for two weeks simultaneously. Lots of funny struggle sessions over podcasts that are just simply gone now
I know he’s been banished now but ’s antinatalism cold open after the subreddit reacted negatively to the Chapos telling people to have kids was one of the funniest things I ever heard.
Not really lore, but I always love seeing certain users who just have a certain type of post they’re always busy at. DirtOwl with their owl pics, the one user who continually posted old swords, idk if its the same user but another long marathon of gun posts. Just really cozy.
u/Tervell does the sword and gun posts
@Tervell@hexbear.net is an unsung hero. I love his video posts even though they don’t get much interaction.
Since federation I don’t see his posts on my feed as much anymore, I miss it
sort by local only and by “hot” and you should occasionally his posts
Remember that bot (I’m pretty sure it was actually a user doing a bit and not a real bot, lmao) that scolded people for not putting their posts in the community that most closely matched the subject?
The “adjust your posting in line with this guidance” or whatever bot? That one just popped back into my head. People were so pissed, it actually started a struggle session. Years later, I’m not very proud to admit that I was one of the people being laughed at for getting ass-mad at a bot telling me what to do. I even reported it like a dozen times for spam. I downbeared whenever it showed up. That in particular is really embarrassing in hindsight considering reports are not anonymous and neither were downbears.
My second favorite piece of Hexbear lore is that three of my four pets are emotes because I’m drunk with power
and I’m working on finding a photo of my third dog to integrate into the emote base. You cannot stop me
wait what? I thought and were cutout from memes??? Your cute pets are famous!!
dog
the fourth animal has arrived
Incredibly based. We need more screm anyway
holy moly i had no ideaoly

I didn’t know they were yours either! I’ll make one of comrade Bailey :corgi-posting:
I do love that Hexbear has singlehandedly thrown off results for surveys about left wing violent rhetoric
“Slavers should be shot”, and other controversial statements
lmao link?
oh we extremely have feds lurking.
for our fbi handlers
I don’t have it handy but it’s a formal looking study. On mobile, but im sure another user will swoop in with the paper
The Peter Singer spammer, where someone got so mad at being banned that for at least a day they made HUNDREDS of accounts to spam the opening paragraph of Peter Singer’s Wikipedia article, making a new one seconds after they got banned. It’s only recently occurred to me that, since account creation was and is rate-limited by IP, they had to manually toggle their VPN every single time they got banned, only to get clapped again mere seconds after
Even if it was automated, that means they had to write a script that could do that, which is equally funny to me
I’m not even exaggerating, btw. They made upwards of 300 accounts in the span of a single day.
maybe had several devices going

The dark ages of Hexbear
The year long path to migration back to lemmy started because I was annoyed that the page refreshed randomly on mobile view and it annoyed me enough to start poking around and get involved with the dev team.
This action resulted in a dramatic improvement to the enjoyability of my time fucking around online, and I am very appreciative. Thank you!!
I took an extended grasstouching break and came back recently. Idk if people who are on here daily notice how much better and more responsive the site is now. Wish I could still make emojis bigger with # though
Oh yeah you left the D&D server and then I don’t think any of us heard from you again. You missed @Ho_Chi_Chungus@hexbear.net using his breath weapon in the sewers and decimating the trade district.
Yeah, I was going through a pretty rough time, and as much as I liked the idea of being in that game, I had a bunch of other shit that I needed to work on. Thankfully I’m in a much better place now
In my defense, at that moment I was also at an extremely low point in my life. Usually I’m not the type of guy to initiate a total party kill but I was in a real not good mood that day
Hope you’re doing better now comrade
Thank you for your service.
The Great Vegan Struggle Session was fun. But honestly, a lot of the “Lore” makes me feel sad. We lost a few good comrades in the early days of constant struggle sessions.
Too recent to be lore really, but LiberalSocialist the main character of Hexbear. Its what the unions wanted!
The power imbalance!
Do you disagree?
Rank and file
Power dynamics
without a doubt. Wish I saw it firsthand.
yall know it had to be this badboy
it was an extremely funny couple of days.
BMF and their various successors will always be my fav.
Edit: I think my second fav which idk if its even like a thing most people remember but I just remember it in particular.
There was some discussion about communal canteens replacing restaurants in a post-revolutionary society and I remember someone just went full socialism-with-vault-tec-characteristics and started ranting about how no one will have access to any personal kitchens at all, so that a proper and correct single solitary diet could be enforced upon the community.
you are welcome to go exploring in !main@hexbear.net but if you post anything there you gotta follow the rule.
All the old archived posts are back now, my favorite is for the sheer absurdity and how noone who doesn’t know gets it at all. https://hexbear.net/post/90348
To think there was such a long stretch where Eugene_V_Dabs’ body of work was inaccesible to anyone who hadn’t already saved it.
Edit: Oh also the time Big Money Salvia dropped by.
