      True. But what I meant is, does he come off as a stereotype, caricature, normal, etc.? Does he automatically feel like a character who is trying too hard to be Italian, or does he blend in?

        I don’t think anyone is offended by it, I guess people simply don’t mind the stereotype.

    Italian here.

    We see Mario as a caricatural character; for us, i the typical way as a non-european thinks about italians. It’s not an offensive stereotype, it’s nice and funny. Italians are offended about stereotypes about mafia, Berlusconi and mandolino, not about Mario.
