I was a captive audience to someone talking about how some countries only had access to China’s vaccine. They said the vaccine was terrible and people took it and still got COVID.
But like… I took American vaccines and still got COVID…
…and over a million people in the US died of COVID, some of whom where vaccinated with US subsidized, corporate vaccines.
It was brought up because others were talking about global inequality during the pandemic. So having to take the subpar sinovac was apparently all part of global inequalities.
I hate talking about COVID and I feel like it’s so distracting and people try to make everything about COVID because it’s so easy to do. Maybe that is just a hot take but this argument that sinovac sucks because people still contracted COVID is at best a really lazy way to try to say US vaccines are better.
Also the same person implied masking prevents people from contracting the virus… instead of preventing you from spreading it to others like was repeated ad nasium by medical representatives for 2 years straight.
Just someone who doesn’t understand the purpose of vaccines, with a sprinkling of china hate for gold measure
Also, I thought masks did help prevent infection? Not a lot, the primary purpose is to prevent spread, but still a little
Honestly not surprised this type of narrative gets thrown around with all the pro west propaganda despite all the covid deaths in countries with western vaccines. Western big pharma also has incentives to have their ‘products’ appear superior in any way.
Even within the PRC there are tonnes of liberals who had spread loads of shit despite them being the ones who tried to force the government to open up and let covid run rampant because they wanted their “freedoms”. Liberal relatives of mine have said this type of shit lol:
- As soon as government opened up, shit tonnes of people got infected and got sick, this is proof of Chinese vaccines being shit and doesn’t protect people like Pfizer ones for example
- Because Chinese vaccines are useless, so many people are dying that morgues are filled and you have to bribe people to jump the queue, there are many people still living with their dead relatives at home
Try to talk back to these liberals and they will call you pinko lol.
Not sure that is pay to jump the queue to the morgue, tbh 😬
The sinovac hate was definitely insane, even in Mexico it was common discourse to hate the sinovac mostly because the conservative party was spreading the hate because it was one of the vaccines the goverment was able to get.
I have nothing to add to this thread as i basically agree with everything that has been said here so far, but i just wanted to say how glad i am that this space is simultaneously lib free AND anti-vaxxer free. That is SO hard to find nowadays online, you either get one or the other but not both usually. Thank you for being awesome!
I have a “friend” that bought into the mRNA vaccine conspiracies and refused to get one. Says he would only support traditional vaccines. Tell him that’s what Sinovac was. Proceeds to go on an anti-China rant. Can’t with with these people. I’ve stopped trying to help them.
Every people I know who got the disease had 3 injections of western brands vaccines before catching it. Thankfully no one had complications, and I believe the vaccines really helped. But then going and talking about how terrible the sinovac is is impossibly hypocritical because ours are just that far from perfect and sinovac is at worst barely less effective
Didn’t the RNA vaccines have issues with finding & surviving in freezer storage (mostly just due to shitty compressors)?
Also heard gossip about them having limited effectiveness on variants, & (this is even more hearsay bc I haven’t kept track well) being misdosed. On top of us attempting deliberately sending days-from-expiration vaccines to poorer countries through COVAX, not distributing them properly domestically at first and severely fucking up the messaging, it makes sense countries balked from or were unable to reach vaccine agreements with us. I’ve heard that one a fair bit too like China didn’t fare well without our vaccine. Fantastical thinking without any idea of how it all went down. You really saw these people clam up after their predictions of a post-0-covid apocalypse didn’t come to fruition. They just forgot about it I guess because they stopped getting fed the outrage articles they covertly consume like junk food addicts.
Yep, at the start it was hard getting good enough freezer space to transport them. Sinovac is more forgiving on that aspect and easier to manufacture in mass iirc. Early on it seemed like the vaccines were all about similar, not sure how that turned out to today.
We made everything difficult about the response even at home, the more a disaster is fumbled, the more money for the companies involved. 100% profit over lives and that lasts to today and will last until people get fed up.
Vaccines are generally sort of like having extra armor in old school Doom, you’ll still run the potential of getting hit, but its less likely to 1-shot you when it does. Every virus group works a bit differently too vs the immune sys, so any vaccine made has that in mind as well but gets into immunology and I never took that lol.
The whole antivax thing is wild in the US, it wasn’t great before, but where I live now some have started to deny the existence of any viruses, not just Covid19.
i took the sinovac vax and i’m still alive so i guess that’s worth something. i do suspect i got infected before vaccines were even available here but i didn’t get tested, so no idea if i actually did catch covid at all. and also another time last year, at which point i had taken two doses.
Hey, I took American vaccines and I had covid too! I still have long covid 1 year later
Masks do prevent infection especially if you wear a KN95 or KF94 or FFP2 or N95 or P100 that seals well all around your nose and mouth. For surgical and cloth masks they don’t do as well because the filtration and fit isn’t good enough for these more contagious variants.
In my global south home, my wife was only offered the Astra Zeneca vaccine after most European nations had banned it for under 50s/60s due to high risk of side affects - she’s a couple of decades younger than those cut offs.
She’s had some heart issues subsequently and while we can’t prove it was due to the vaccine the doubt remains - not that we could sue or anything since all manufacturers were given immunity to lawsuits for the vaccines.
Her parents and one of our children were assigned sinovac and have had no issues. I got one of the more prestigious western vaccines while travelling in the USA. We’ve all had covid subsequent to the vaccination, but my wife is the one who really suffers through it while for the rest of us it’s been mild. This is just anecdotal but the general consensus here is that those who got sinovac did not suffer as much as those getting European rejects.
Yes global inequality is a real thing but that’s no excuse for dumb china bad takes.
They are merely repeating what was said in the Fake News MSM.
The vaccines ended up being mostly similar in strength by the end. The USA vaccines had better conditions in their trials due to the USA never controlling the spread while other nations had frequently stopped the spread of the virus.
The CDC said that it told the public falsehoods about masks to conserve supplies for hospitals. Their story about masks changed regularly throughout the whole time.
well…i took sinovac and i’ve avoided the cough, so…probably works
I personally know of people who fucking DIED from reactions to the US vaccine. It unfortunately happens, people have significantly negative responses to even universally upheld treatments. But to pretend like the US corporate-lobbied and globally hoarded vaccine is somehow “better” than China’s is rich.
There’s a recent statistical study that shows that vaccinated people (with the Western vaccines) tend to have a higher chance of getting COVID long-term (at least 6 months after the vaccine). And the chance seems to increase with booster shots. If there’s a correlation we don’t know yet (but the math suggests it), and why there would be we are not sure about.
I’m not against vaccines, but it should be noted that most Western pharma corporations, with the exception of Pfizer, were already saying that the vaccine protects from symptoms and doesn’t limit spread. Many countries wanted to get their population vaccinated, so they were promoting the false idea that vaccines limit spread.
Pfizer picked up on that and also started falsely saying their vaccine was limiting spread, while they had the data that it doesn’t. They also hid data about adverse effects and were heavily trying to downplay them.
TLDR, western vaccines are not better than Russian, Chinese, Cuban or other COVID vaccines. All they do, especially after the multiple Coronavirus variations that emerged after the vaccines were developed, is they limit the symptoms and can save a sick person from going into ICU or dying.
There’s a recent statistical study that shows that vaccinated people […] tend to have a higher chance of getting COVID long-term
You’re gonna need a source of you’re making bold claims like that
so they were promoting the false idea that vaccines limit spread.
Studies show COVID vaccines did limit spread [1]
Also anecdotally China contained COVID extremely well and were meticulous in vaccinating the population. While reducing ICU trips is a noble cause, if that’s all the vaccines did, China would have kept up the research pressure until they did more.

Specifically go to figure 2 for what I’m talking about.
I’m not disputing China’s vaccine effectiveness. I’m disputing the western vaccines effectiveness.
That actually seems to check out. The article does note the benefits of the vaccine, but their description of Figure 2 in conclusion:
The association of increased risk of COVID-19 with higher numbers of prior vaccine doses was unexpected. […] This is not the only study to find a possible association with more prior vaccine doses and higher risk of COVID-19. During an Omicron wave in Iceland, individuals who had previously received 2 or more doses were found to have a higher odds of reinfection than those who had received fewer than 2 doses of vaccine […] A large study found, in an adjusted analysis, that those who had an Omicron variant infection after previously receiving three doses of vaccine had a higher risk of reinfection than those who had an Omicron variant infection after previously receiving two doses of vaccine. Another study found, in multivariable analysis, that receipt of two or three doses of a mRNA vaccine following prior COVID-19 was associated with a higher risk of reinfection than receipt of a single dose. Immune imprinting from prior exposure to different antigens in a prior vaccine, and class switch towards non-inflammatory spike-specific IgG4 antibodies after repeated SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccination, have been suggested as possible mechanisms by why prior vaccine may provide less protection than expected.
