Wtf does that mean
I sorta asked what he meant and he looked at me like I was dumb and said “you know, the Ls, the Ds, the Gs”. I’m guessing he meant LGBTQ people, but idfk. The guy gives me bad reactionary vibes, so it wouldn’t surprise me.
I look it up afterwards and most places talking about it online are accurately pointing out the company just sucks and management is awful, but I feel like that’s been common knowledge for like a decade at this point.
Is this some right wing gamer bug of the month or something? Cause I’m way outta the loop
They also just announced that they’re closing a bunch of their studios and cancelling like six games because everything they do is crazy bloated and unsustainable (sorry, I mean AAAA). Their stock price fell like 35% this week, which is indeed because of the alphabet people, but the letters are M, B, A, C, E, and O.
35% in a week, 95% in 5 years. The CEO has somehow managed to keep his job regardless.
Nobody else can be trusted with the cover up of all the sexual misconduct at Ubisoft.
which is indeed because of the alphabet people, but the letters are M, B, A, C, E, and O.
fuck alphabet people all my friends hate the alphabet people
Ubisoft does suck because of alphabet people, but in the sense that they toe the ideological line of the CIA and co., leading to icons like their butchery of Marx
The acquaintance is just a loser tourist who has no appreciation for Ubi sucking for a very long time and just wants to attack minorities or let others do so.
You probably misheard (or they poorly enunciated) “the Ts” for trans people, but my headcanon is that they wanted to do the d-slur for lesbians but forgot that they just said “the Ls”.
Actually, this is the first interpretation I had of alphabet people, but I thought it’d be ridiculous to mention the CIA, so I asked “you mean like google?”
Baldur’s Gate 3 let you choose your genitals and romance anyone you wanted. Why didn’t it flop? Could it be that goodness and not-being-hostile are on separate axes? And besides, Ubisoft doesn’t even register in my mind as people who give a fuck outside of a corporation where some senior fellow is going to shout the n word over and over then a Twitter account is going to be all “we want our products to be welcoming to everyone; this does not reflect our values”.
Saw some chuds still salty about AC Shadows on Reddit.
Ubisoft’s problem is that lobotomized MBA’s are leading the company. After the AC Unity disaster, they got a win in AC Origins and instead of learning the correct lessons which is that people want innovation, they just started spamming slop RPGs for all their major franchises.
Ubisoft still published some good games after that but the studios were rewarded with lay-offs and closures. I don’t see any dev being happy to work at Ubisoft. It’s just a step towards switching to a stable studio.
God I hate anti-wokes. There are so many valid criticisms gamers could be making on games but these guys blaming marginalized groups instead of the real culprits makes real discussion impossible. Now you either have the anti-woke gamers or the other type that reject any type of criticism of games at all because complaining is now associated with the anti-woke crowd.
This is why I will always go hard on the literacy in general, social media brainrot, the venerating anti intellectualism. Ubisoft canceling 6 games including prince of persia after laying off 3000 workers due to major restructuring and the conclusion they come to is… This? Post it on YouTube and get tons of views. The ways extreme intellectual laziness is rewarded just infects everything.
ant intellectualism
Oh shit the ants are evolving 🐜🐜🐜
(I kid, I’m the last person who should be making fun of typos)
FuckMeruem was a gamer

I read some .time ago about someone turning an anthill into a primitive computer. Pretty cool
Children of Time has something like this if you’re into wild scifi
Swarm intelligence algorithm?
reminiscing fondly upon the times where the larger gamersphere thought Bobby Kotick was Hitler
Remember Jack Thompson?
Right? Like absolute ages ago, I actually seriously cared about ethics in game journalism. I still do, but recognize it’s a very minor issue in the scheme of things.
It’s absurd that there were industry mailing lists/chatrooms where people were asking other journos to cut their friend’s game a break, people reviewing games built by their drinking buddies without even mentioning the personal relationship in passing, and (game) companies using their (often piss poor) representation of marginalized groups to try and silence valid non-bigoted criticism.
So I fell into GamerGate for a while. For a bit despite the behinning, they seemed to be primarily focused on getting journos to use responsible disclosure. I’m glad that trend mostly caught on.
It’s so frustrating that it ended up being a vehicle for “anti-woke”, racism, and misogyny to become openly acceptable to a whole chunk of people.
“Uh, you know, the Liberals, the Democrats, the Gamers?”

One can dream…
They’ve been saying alphabet people for a long time
Ls, the Ds, the Gs
New sexuality discovered
I probably misheard him and he said T’s lol
They got the lesbians and the dykes
What would it stand for? Diagnosed? Delirious? Dangerous? Dads? Dalmatians? Danganropa?
Disexual, bisexual but more Greek
WRONG!
IT STANDS FOR ME!
DIO SEXUAL

Haven’t heard “alphabet people” in a while, but its just chuds being anti-LGBT as usual. This reminds me of something that happened here in Brasil in regards to AC Shadows:
[CW: anti-Trans rhetoric]
Outside the usual chud discourse about the game with these fuckers losing their mind because there’s a black man playable, Yasuke who they swear never existed, because history is whatever they want it to be, and the other playable character, Naoe, who is a woman, which is enough for them to lose their minds, Ubisoft Brasil launched this insanely cool ad for the game as a tribute to Tokusatsu series, and the woman playing Naoe in the video is called Thaís Matsufugi. I don’t know much about her, other than that she is Davy Jones’ wife, a very well known chud gaming youtuber here (who is also a meme since he knows jack shit about games and only talks about GTA), and for some reason she started being target by gringos being transphobic to her, when she’s not even trans, she’s cis. I still don’t understand how/why the fuck this happened.
From what I have seen Ubisoft is cooked because they are just a shitty company making shitty decisions. Just recently they publicly shamed the studio that was doing the Prince Of Persia remake, assigned another studio, and now a few days ago just cancelled the project. They also created another company under them to manage their games promising it is to give the development teams more freedom, but they sold like a 1/4 or a 1/5 of it to Tencent, which just screams that they are not doing well. That alongside a bunch of project cancellations and well, you get the picture.
I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:
Ubisoft has always sucked. Being a fan of their games means being able to appreciate the imperfect. They have uncut diamonds that they never ever figure out how to cut. I loved the original assassin’s creed game as a kid because of the potential it showed (and because baiting 273 templars tto get one-shot counter stabbed with a dagger ruled) and every game after I played I felt the same. “There is something here” and I kept playing to get a glimpse of it. And whenever you play a sequel you can see that Ubisoft honestly thinks you’re not interested in the uncut gem, but the dirt surrounding it, so they do their best to have as much dirt as possible and as few gems as possible and that’s part of it too - interacting with detached frenchmen. It’s like this comic if you removed all the positives of being a sports fan - the culture, camaraderie, community and so on. Just pure capitalist slop. And I used to love it.
I haven’t played since far cry 4 and I haven’t paid for a game since the pirate assassin’s creed.
This originally started with two lines about liking the original assassin’s creed despite it being shit and ubi always having been shit, but then I felt like being bombastic and exaggerated
For what it’s worth, AC Black Flag is generally considered to be different enough to be worth l it. I loved it, but it’s the only AC game I played.
It’s probably more like two uncut diamonds sitting together in a mound of dirt though, to be honest.
I really love that analogy by the way.
I liked black flag too, but it just wasn’t what I wanted from a pirate game. I really wish there was a more modern version of Sid Meier’s Pirates! I need actual trade routes, city growth, weather simulations as well as all the piratey stuff of “lost city expeditions”, bar brawls, swooshing and swooning and so on.
It was fun - though the 18+ hours of trailing quests before the main game was a real dragBut I suppose that is what I mean by liking ubisoft games. You gotta squint and it’s there.
Edit: Oddly enough that’s how I feel about Pirates! as well. I guess I love broken games. Also thank you for the compliment on the analogy
You might like Horizon’s Gate.
I’ve never played Sid Meier’s Pirates! but if you’ve ever played Uncharted Waters: New Horizons for the SNES, it sounds like Diet Pirates! Trade routes, mapping the world, discovery of exploration sites on the shore (lost cities, tribes, etc), ship and captain battles (and some small RPG elements in character progression and story). No weather systems, or real city growth. Trade will effect prices of other trade goods in a port, and you can flood a market, so you have to rotate where you’re selling between a few to let markets recover.
Anyway, Horizon’s Gate takes all of that stuff from UC:NH, expands on it a little bit, adds Final Fantasy Tactics style on foot combat using your crew. FFT style equipment, classes, levels, abilities, can mix and match when you reach a certain job level.
Actual RPG style dungeon crawling with the ability to use party combat techniques during on foot exploration. Freeze water to cross moats and rivers, electrify magitech equipment in abandoned labs, use your jumping attacks to cross gaps, burn away overgrowth to get through jungles to lost temples, use the floaying movement tech to get over pressure plate traps, etc. Reminiscent of Golden Sun in that way.
Basic crafting system where you can use different materials with unique effects to make different weapons and armors, then slot in gems to further augment properties.
Ship equipment with passive effects and different ship weapons with different effects, including magic cannons that can do stuff like freezing tiles so boats can’t pass them or wind cannons that blow other ships around.
Can have multiple ships in your fleet with different specialties.
Kingdoms with different specialties, unique equipment, unique ships, and unique character classes that you can pledge to and do various quests and research stuff for to earn kingdom favor.
RPG style rumors in town that can lead to dungeons and little side quests, mysteries, and the like that aren’t always tracked.
Not really weather “systems”, but there are things on the overworld like headwinds, roving sea monsters, stuff that can give similar sorts of effects I guess.
Graphics obviously inspired by SNES era Final Fantasy. To the point that I’m pretty sure there was some tracing.
And a small but deep and impressively well polished modding community with a lot of really polished additional content. More randomly generated and hand crafted dungeons, more classes, settlements, questlines, recruitable characters with character specific stories and dialog, expansions to existing systems, entirely new gameplay systems and elements that almost always blend and interact seamlessly with each other and the base game.
With all the different ways to customize character builds and equipment, there’s a ton of depth to combat and a lot of ways you could probably make overpowered setups. Unfortunately this game has taught me that I suck with this combat style. I use a mod to give me two or three extra crewmates than you can normally bring into each battle.
So… it wouldn’t have the same depth for the sailing, city building (outside of a few modded questy towns), or weather systems. But it’s a fairly unknown indie game that I can’t reccomend enough, especially if you like Final Fantasy Tactics.
I’ll give it a try!
search engine optimization attempting to remove ‘alphabet people’ as a term for FBI, CIA, etc.Comes from a company known to be womaizers, and union busting. Fuck Ubisoft, will continue to boycott all their slop
“the stock price is crashing because woke !!!”
not even 2¢ down on the pre-announce hype

PS: their stock price actually crashed around 2018-2020 around the time The Division 1 and it’s bullshit marketing lmaoooo.
Bullshit marketing is underselling it lol, I remember the sentiment around that game being that it would be the biggest greatest game ever made lmao.
Ubisoft has been a pretty shit developer for a while. 20 years ago, Assassin’s Creed (the first one) was a pretty impressive game with climbing, exploration, discovery, history, collection… and really, really bad fights that were often unavoidable despite the game holding itself out as a stealth game. So you could drop on a guy here and there, but for the big boss battle, you have to fight, and it’s all about super tight timing.
Then they made a dozen or two more games just like it, but they got shallower and shallower. The last one was controversial to some because you play a Black guy in Japan, and historians are divided on whether or not this guy existed, some are shouting DEI and some are shouting woke and the conversation is just pushed further and further from is it a good game or not? Probably no, because Ubisoft made it, but the conversation comes down to the race of the character.
I don’t care if a character is LGBTQ+ or a person of colour if the story is good, and you shouldn’t either. I didn’t play Life is Strange because Pricefield is an awesome ship. It’s really not, it’s kinda shallow, but I still had Max kiss Chloe because I didn’t wanna see her kiss the guy. He came off as creepy. Chloe came off as hot but a bit problematic, which I think is the point. So lesbianism is optional in Life is Strange. In Life is Strange 2, I think it’s a bit less of a choice and more, completely obvious the main guy is gay — and LiS 2 is the best of the series, gameplay wise. Though as a character I like Max more.
But that’s Square Enix, Dontnod, and Deck Nine — Ubisoft would never make anything as good as Life is Strange.
Theyve been complaining about gay people and women forever.
I dont like big corpos try to pander with milquetoast gender/sexuality politics, because its not genuine most of the time. Indie games always win with that kind of thing.
I’m guessing he meant LGBTQ people
yes
Is this some right wing gamer bug of the month or something? Cause I’m way outta the loop
yes, but not “of the month”, basically everything that fails in gaming fails because it was queer people’s fault, but when something succeeds it must be because it was a based titty game or w/e
Yeah “gamers” as in people who play videogames hasn’t existed as a demographic for half a decade at least. The “gamer” demo is just Fascists who have totally absorbed all critique of videogames into their psychosexual conspiracy ideology, because to actually agitiate for better videogames (stable working conditions, longer dev cycles, banning gambling mechanics) actually erodes the industry’s role as a lynchpin of capitalist hyperconsumption
