Dwarf Fortress is 20 years old and still only has half the planned features. Tarn will be working on it until he croaks. Bless that man.

The amount of simulations is still looking for its match. Hell, it reminds me of the possible best simulation: Dwarfes are having a party. Someone spills their beer. A cat walks through the beer puddle. The cat cleans its paws. The cat becomes drunk from the beer on its paws.

The graphic is rather old, even the steam version or with “Lazy Newb Pack”, but it is still !!FUN!!.

It’s kind of blown my mind to learn about the development of that game. UnReal World’s similar how it started development in like the 90’s and the guys still just keep working on it like a group hobby. Love that for them

Right now is the best time to play old games. Retro gaming handhelds have never been better, and honestly there’s little to improve in them at this point.

Get yourself a retro handheld for as little as $100, that will feel more premium than a Steam Deck, and start playing games that came out before you were born.

I’ve genuinely forgotten how bad the current video game industry is, because I’m so busy having a blast with older/retro titles.

    Highly recommend to all gamers.

You can check out what handheld console would fit you best here: https://retrocatalog.com/

Everyone about that GTAVI life while I’m in the Fire Emblem and Yakuza mines trying to make a dent in the 50 million games each of those series have, because every time I finish one they release three more 🫩

Japan…please…stop…I beg you. I feel as overworked as the devs working for you.

On top of FE and Yakuza, I’ve still got like 10 Shin Megami Tensei games to go through, after playing (what feels like) 20+. It never ends.

i should boot mine up and play costume quest tho, that was fun

Indie devs are fucking killing it, though. A lot of bangers have been coming out.

I’m currently obsessed with How Many Dudes? That game is so much fun.

You could, or gog have a much better refund policy than steam. You could even refund it and keep the offline installer if you really wanted to, of course you won’t get updates and it isn’t really the idea of it. I think they do block you eventually if you keep abusing it for everything.

All hail the ability to emulate console games up to a certain generation well enough on even lower end hardware.

Ain’t no other way to officially enjoy classics like Tony Hawk Pro Skater ( best on Dreamcast IMO ). Probably one of the greatest skater games, just behind a game like Skate 2. But maybe that’s the nostalgia talking…

A little wordy as a catch phrase, but I like the sentiment.

What about playing them on the original consoles? I’ve got a Game Cube and PS3 I still use occasionally, and a PS2 that I haven’t tried in a long time but would give it 50/50 for just booting up if I hooked it up, plus some portion of the failure 50% includes the possibility of repairing it.

Original console, in most cases, is probably gonna be the better option IMO. But due to the rising cost of everything, games/consoles included, emulation is better from a purely price saving standpoint. I am lucky enough to have so many consoles, but I still emulate or use console softmods because I can’t afford every game I want.

I also love how emulators make 40 year old games much more playable with features like state save.

I remembered my family having the ps1 version, but my brother said I was wrong because we apparently had the n64 version.

Either way, was definitely a defining game of my early childhood. Such a fun game. I was lucky enough to find it at a game store where I live. It was for some reason tucked away with the ps1 games and somehow just barely under $20USD before tax! A steal, if you ask me.
