Right? I don’t understand why it’s considered bad to start and abandoned hobbies that didn’t work for us. Hobbies are supposed to be pointless activities we do for our own enjoyment.

I like learning new things. I like learning the bases of stuff, while refining it to a long term hobby happens rarely. I see nothing wrong with it! (And I’m likely NT)

I also like having a variety of topics to approach people with. Gives a lot of conversation options.

Yeah, I circle around them all when I get bored. Soon to reap all the benefits.

      Soon.

I focus on hobbies where I can make things, like woodworking, welding, 3d printing, etc. That way they all tie together, keeping things fresher, and get me some practical skills.

Shit shit shit, don’t remind me. My latest hobby is still fun and I’m still holding back on buying the more expensive shit. The moment I do it’ll all be over.

Surprisingly I’ve been stuck on one hyperfocused hobby for line 5 years, self hosting and digital privacy. Just when I feel like I’ve made the perfect machine, I have to change something

I wish I could finally get into self-hosting. But I fear the steep learning curve. Computer-related hobbies were much easier to pick up for me when I still had a computer-based job because then I could just procrastinate learning Linux or LaTeX stuff :D

There’s YUNOHOST, which lowers the leaning curve down to “can you flash a USB drive with an iso and boot it” if you’re interested

Ooh nice, thanks! Sounds easy enough to get started. Now I would just have to set up the raspberry pi I bought and never actually used for anything :D

Tbh it can also be terrible when you realize that in 6 months you got deeper into the topic than someone doing it for years, like “oh you don’t know about the most specialized and intricate detail about this niche of your hobby??”. Basically that their passion for the topic somehow is 10x less than what you felt for it at your peak

I liked getting into others hobbies a lot, but after half a year or so it kind of just dropped off and i didn’t care about it.

If I’ve got someone else that’s also into it and frequently wants to do it together, then it’s waaay easier for me to continue it. Kinda sucks cause it makes me feel like I’m putting the onus on others to keep me involved. I swear I’m not doing that on purpose!

It’s probably a little harder for people with ADHD to stick with something through the lulls because we don’t have that intrinsic motivation driving us to be able to experience that delayed gratification.

When trying to build a routine or a habit, it’s like clearing a path through a forest and building a trail. It takes everyone dedication and effort. But for a lot of people (not everyone) with ADHD, it’s probably more like a thick-ass jungle. I can do it, too, and it’s gonna be a strugglebus. But once it’s cleared and the pavement is down, consistent foot traffic is usually all that’s needed to keep it clear.

6 months ? That’s a lot od time immersed in a single hobby. Are you sure it wasn’t more like 6 days ?
