good job huawei.
Love me some freedom!

?
Richard “big dick” Wolff is an expert on worker coops. Huawei is one
Doubt.
Thanks
I’m apparently 2 levels removed from whatever that meme is; no clue who that is for one
I can’t wait until HarmonyOS becomes global.
we need something free and open, instead of moving from being dominated by one country to being dominated by another country
OpenHarmony does exist of which Huawei’s HarmonyOS is but one distribution.
That’s the spirit 👏
Isn’t HarmonyOS closed? I’d rather not jump from a bad ship to a worse one
It is like Android, mixed source. Android is based on the open source AOSP project. HarmonyOS is based on the open source OpenHarmony project. Kaihong has released laptops that uses its own OpenHarmony distribution.
Oh i see, that’s nice then
to a worse one
This seems to be quite the leap. Elaborate?
Closed = very bad
Android is open source, so you can at least make your fork and find a way to load it on phones that support bootloader unlocking, while harmony is closed so you cannot do that which is objectively worse
As others have said harmony is setup exactly the same as android, open source OS on which a closed source customized flavor is built. It’s exactly as bad or not bad as android is in this regard. The flavor being in control of a Chinese corporation instead of an American one is another issue.
That’s reasonable thank you. I suppose I always took androids open source nature to be largely “theoretical”(?) given googles controlling stake and simply the nature of the mobile market where effectively every android device is running googles proprietary version. HarmonyOS is in reality in the same boat given it has OpenHarmony in parallel to HarmonyOS in the same way AOSP is parallel to Android.

Yeah buddy, that’s because you’re 12!

I think every international company and government is corrupt.
Unlike my domestic companies and government, whose motives are pure and only serve the best interests of the people.

I don’t see how you navigate life without understanding that the real world is far more complex than that.
Only some or them are doing genocide and bombing children tho
Don’t be a disingenuous prick
I think you meant some of them aren’t currently engaged in genocide. All of them have.

Not all governments equally bomb weddings, hospitals, schools and provide political and military aid to countries convicted of genocide. Some nuance is in order.
peak enlightened centrism on display
enlightened centrism (uncountable)
(derogatory, politics) Centrism that is perceived as condescending because it treats all positions as equally valid or flawed without engaging with their actual merits, often positioning compromise or moderation as uniquely rational and above the fray.
Usage notes
This term is often used by both the left and right to criticize politicians and media figures who attempt to equally appeal to opposing viewpoints so that they can maximize their support, in a way that is seen as unprincipled or overly cautious.
Not really the case here, or do you go by a different definition?
Huh?
The original comment stated that they hate every government equally.
How does the definition you posted, which literally states “it treats all positions as equally flawed without engaging with their actual merits”, not fit here? This is a square shape object goes into square shape hole situation and couldn’t be more fitting.
Positions do not equal governments. His position is that all governments are untrustworthy. That’s just one position, one opinion. Not a myriad.
EDIT: to make it more clear: all governments being untrustworthy is something an anarchist would say. It would be quite the stretch to call that centrism, no?
I would say that those governments have positions and opinions that vary widely and that someone saying that all of their positions are equally bad, is peak enlightened centricism.
Edit: Anarchists do sometimes engage in enlightened centricism and have been called out for that. The difference is that Anarchists believe that the governmentness (“unjustified” hierarchy) of a government is the bad thing and not that every government just so happens to be bad like the comment OP seems to think.
I made an edit to my previous post:
to make it more clear: all governments being untrustworthy is something an anarchist would say. It would be quite the stretch to call that centrism, no?
The person (I reckon) is rather talking about the inherent nature of a government being corrupt. The individual opinions of each government do not matter for this.
Ah, i also just edited my comment haha. Then the difference lies in us reading the comment differently. You would be correct in your interpretation of the comment, i do not see a reason why that interpretation would be less valid than mine either until comment OP clarifies their position
I mean… yeah? US blocked sales of damn near every US component to Huawei. What else were they going to do besides not use US components?
The point here, which evidently went over your head, is that China now has the technological capability and supply chains to produce cutting edge electronics domestically end to end. No other country, including the US itself, is able to do that.
Oh good grief why are you always so combative? I’m well aware that it’s clearly an accomplishment - but it’s also their only option besides go out of business so I don’t know what the US expected to happen.
Also erm… no, they aren’t end-to-end domestically produced:
The South China Morning Post noted Huawei is reducing reliance on advanced foreign semiconductor equipment
More interestingly, while the Kirin is considerably less dependent on US or Western tech, it doesn’t remove it from the equation entirely, and you still have to look closely at the bill of materials for receipts.
SMIC’s process, however, still leverages ASML immersion scanners.
They’re getting there, but if we go by what’s in the article they don’t have that capability yet.
Your original comment essentially read like a bad reddit style anti-china argument. Like, “these dumb chinese people would have never figured out to do this if the US didn’t force them to! No need to give those asians any credit!”
It is now obvious you wrote it from the perspective of “duh, why is anyone in the west acting surprised? They literally have no other option besides dying”
Dude is just your average brainwashed white Western spitting fabricated consent dubbed as “common sense”
This company is currently embroiled in ip theft legal issues and it’s not looking good for them.
owww, poor companies are getting ips stolen from them. go help your corporate overlords!
gives a shit about IP theft
Thinks it’s not looking good for Huawei

embroiled
Anyone and any company can get ‘embroiled’ in anything.
All it takes is accusing you of being a thief a pedo or whatever.
And there you have Brkdncr ‘embroiled’ in a pedo case. This is nothing but the US sore losers using dirty tricks because they can’t compete in the free market they love so much.
Always with this excuse or national security/espionage.
Pathetica lost redditor is currently embroiled in making a clown of themselves on lemmy and it’s not looking good for them
Huawei is way better than Apple or Samsung or the like
Weird how this is not the case. You could begin by citing court cases and verdicts.
In what way? There are lots of countries outside of the US
Not directly related but isn’t this the same company who was caught stealing ip from Samsung on how to manufacture memory?
I’m not sure that matters. And it’s not like US hasn’t done the same in many cases too. I had an American friend who legit claimed US invented pizza
Imagine giving a shit about IP
Ultra based tbh
no
So it only spies a little, not a lot? Phew…
